Etto Martin
Etto Martín, known as the German from La Guajira, learned windurfing in Germany and his passion for the wind led him to prepare as an instructor. Pedagogue from the Higher School of Pedagogy in Bremen, Germany, he took specialized sailing courses with the VDWS and debuted as a windsurf teacher in Turkey in 1992. When he arrived in Colombia he was clear that he wanted to have his own school and founded Eoletto in 1995 in the Sisga Dam, where he trained low-income boys from the Chocontá population and taught many Bogota citizens how to windsurf. When the Kite fever started, he joined the Isla Margarita Premium School in 2003, where he learned the sport of kite-boarding and its teaching technique; That same year, he introduced the sport in El Cabo de la Vela, where the wind is ideal for lessons. Throughout his career, he developed windsurfing and kiteboarding in the country; two of his students have their own schools: Juan Carlos Sanchez de Ummagumma in Puerto Colombia and Fabian Castañeda de Jubatus in the Tominé Dam. He trained numerous athletes for sailing competitions and taught Nicolás Lozano, who became a highly competitive athlete classifying Colombia in windsurfing RSX for the London 2012 Olympics. He installed schools in numerous places: El Sisga, Tominé, Toca, Cartagena, Cabo de la Vela and repeatedly helped to make exhibitions to develop the sport to the local municipalities of Aquitania (Laguna de Tota), Macanal (Represa de Chivor), El Guavio. His passion for training and the organization of sport led him to the Colombian Sailing Federation, where he held positions on the Technical and Judging Committee for many years. With more than 9,000 students in 25 years, it can be said that Etto has been fundamental for the development and promotion of the sport of kitesurfing and windsurfing in Colombia. Currently he advises his instructors and students and is in charge of the proper functioning of the material and logistics from Eoletto. If any student has learning difficulties, Etto with his 30 years of experience as a windsurf and kite teacher, helps those who need it.
